Inspired by the delicate beauty of blue flax flowers swaying in the summer breeze, Blue Flax captures the feeling of wandering through sunlit meadows on a warm afternoon. Vibrant shades of blue, soft lavender and golden yellow dance across a light-filled background, creating a sense of movement, light and joy.

Handcrafted from layers of Merino and Cheviot wool, this piece celebrates the natural textures and colours found in the landscape. The tactile surface brings depth and softness to the composition, while the scattered blooms evoke memories of wildflowers flourishing beneath open skies. Each petal is carefully placed by hand, resulting in a unique artwork that cannot be replicated.

Part of the Softly Wild collection, Blue Flax reflects my love of translating nature into wool. Inspired by the ever-changing colours of gardens and meadows, the piece balances bold colour with a sense of calm, inviting the viewer to pause and reconnect with the beauty of the natural world.

Created using traditional wet/needle felting techniques, layers of wool are carefully arranged by hand before being transformed through water, soap and movement into a permanent textile artwork. This slow and tactile process allows the fibres to naturally bind together, creating rich textures, subtle depth and organic details that cannot be replicated through paint alone. Needle felting is then used to refine the composition, adding definition and further dimension to the finished piece. The combination of these two techniques creates a richly textured artwork that rewards closer inspection, revealing the unique character and craftsmanship within every layer of wool.
